I think I love to work with found materials because of my Grandma Rose.
I grew up watching her salvage buttons and hook fasteners from worn out clothes before she cut them up for quilt scraps and strips to braid for rugs. Grandma collected string, rubber bands, jar rings, screws from burnt out toasters. She kept a family fed and healthy in Oklahoma during the Great Depression. She was proud of her frugality. I still see her smile of satisfaction whenever she created something both functional and beautiful from scraps and trash.
I want people to pick up the things I make and “look” with their hands.
